Biking Fun for Your Kids at Changi Jurassic Mile

Since its launch on 11th October 2020, the Changi Jurassic Mile – connecting Changi Airport on one end with East Coast Part on the other – has quickly become a popular weekend destination for families and friends.

Life-size dinosaur displays now stand tall against the lush landscape of the Tanah Merah Country Club. With more than 20 creatures from nine different species, the 1-km stretch boasts an impressive collection of prehistoric wildlife – in fact, it is Singapore’s first and largest!

These exhibits, on top of a designated soundtrack accentuated occasionally by mighty roars, constitute an immersive experience that has since received much fanfare. In particular, the trip makes for an ideal weekend that is equal parts exciting and educational for the little ones. Besides getting wowed by displays that are up to 5 metres in height, they also learn about the dinosaurs through informational signboards.

As part of the 3.5-km Changi Airport Connector, the Jurassic Mile is primarily designed to be a cycling route. A one-stop facility has been set up for the convenience of visitors and to serve as a starting point for the stretch.

Aptly named HUB & SPOKE, it comes equipped with a café, pay-per-use shower amenities, bike lockers and more. Before you set off with your bike, you could also pump your tubes and tighten your saddle at the DIY bike repair and tools station within the hub.

A perfect biking experience for your kids

The path is freshly paved and free of challenging terrains, making it perfect for children and beginners alike. Equip them with a BTWIN 20-inch Kids Hybrid Bike from Decathlon Singapore, which is appropriate for children aged six to eight years who are learning to handle hybrid bikes.

For children aged three to five years, a BTWIN 14-inch bike is just what they need to get started on cycling. It is fitted with a pair of stabilizers that allows for tool-free removal. In addition, a chain guard is in place to ensure maximum safety for these tiny cyclists.

Both bikes have an intuitive and child-friendly braking system, which is essential for their safety. They are also readily equipped with a bell that rings loud and clear. These features will come in handy when the route inevitably gets crowded on weekend mornings: they could navigate and stop with ease or alert other visitors to their presence if need be.

Besides the ones mentioned above, there are also other models to choose from at the Decathlon Singapore website when it comes to picking out a first bike for your kids.

Gear up for safety

Regardless of how good your children are with a bicycle, it is still important and good practice to have them gear up properly in case of a fall. A BTWIN 500 Kid’s Bike Helmet offers comprehensive protection with a sturdy shell that is compliant with standard EN1078, a safety benchmark for helmets worn by cyclists, skateboarders and roller skaters.

Moreover, it has a total of six vents to promote ventilation when the children start perspiring in Singapore’s passionate weather. With a rear dial for head size and adjustable size straps, the helmet could fit snugly from three to ten years old.

Consider completing the ensemble with knee and elbow guards, which could minimize the risk of injury in the event of a collision. The BTWIN Bike Protection Kit is reinforced and lined with thick foam for enhanced impact absorption. Its shells and sleeves are anatomically designed for extra comfort, with indicators to identify the left and right parts.

Have a great bike outing for your kids today

As of last month, the 24-hour Jurassic Mile no longer requires advanced booking for entry. Visitors are simply required to observe safe distancing measures and mask up when not eating, drinking or carrying out exercises. Head down this weekend with your enthusiastic little ones and their gears to enjoy some quality family time!
